Hans Vincenz 1959, Gouache
A one-man show of the contemporary German painter Hans Vincenz will open a month‘s stay June 19 as the major summer offering at Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. Arrangements to display the 37 gouaches representing Vincenz first Dallas exhibit were made by director Jerry Bywaters during his trip to Europe last summer.
Vincenz, born in Cologne in 1900, has been painting for about 40 years. His work has gone. Through three definite stages of development of his work in the 20‘s, the artist has said: “Pictures in dark, earthen colours characterize this first period . … figures, ships and scenery of rivers.“
In the 30‘s Vincenz began to produce works “in pure colour, flat and often mural-like in character.“
Following World War II, he experimented with assorted styles, leading to his current non-objective statements. His current pre occupation with structure and colour will be reflected in the recent canvases to be shown here.
In addition to the Vincenz show, DMFA will, also present later in the summer two broad surveys —one of prints, the other of drawings—from the permanent collection.
